« Back to Glossary Index

What is software as a service (SaaS)?

Software as a service is a method of software delivered over the internet without any installation of maintenance needed for individual computers. It is a licensing model that is provided on a subscription basis.

Why is software as a service (SaaS) important?

Software as a service makes it easier for customers to user a service without installation. There are no tedious updates or maintenance needed by the customers. SaaS products also allow individual customers to customize their experience based on their needs. For example, Hyre is a software as a service scheduling and staffing platform. Shift managers can customize how many locations or departments they have based on their business needs. SaaS products are typically updated more frequently than traditional software because the application is hosted centrally by the provider.
